Holy Qur'an
Al Quran, Islams Holy Book and the
foundation of the Islamic faith is the unalterable word of God Almighty.
It is Gods message transmitted to the Prophet Mohammed Gods
Praise and Peace be Upon Him through the intermediary of the Archangel
Gabriel over a period of 23 years, in the noblest form of classical
Arabic. The Holy Quran is the final revelation and the culmination
of all divine messages. The text of the Holy Quran expounds
a clear message of monotheism, which is the cornerstone of faith
in Islam. The Holy text illuminates the lives of all Muslims whether
spiritual or temporal and binds the Muslim Nation (Islamic Umma)
to a system of law, which inspires people by its guiding principles
of human dignity, righteous living, individual responsibility and
social justice.
The Holy Quran comprises of 114 Suras
(Chapters) of varying length containing 6236 Ayas (verses) overall.
The number of words in the Holy Quran is 77437 and these are
traditionally divided into 30 equal sections called Ajzaa,
singular, Juz. More than 2/3 of the Holy Quran, some
4613 Ayas, were revealed in Makka over a period of 13 years mostly
prior to Hijra (The flight of the Holy Prophet from Makka to Medina),
the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar, in the year 622. The
remainder of the Holy Quran, 1623 Ayas were revealed in Medina,
mostly after the Hijra (flight) of the Holy Prophet to Medina.
