The Holy Qur'an

Al Qur’an, Islam’s Holy Book and the foundation of the Islamic faith is the unalterable word of God Almighty. It is God’s message transmitted to the Prophet Mohammed God’s Praise and Peace be Upon Him through the intermediary of the Archangel Gabriel over a period of 23 years, in the noblest form of classical Arabic. The Holy Qur’an is the final revelation and the culmination of all divine messages. The text of the Holy Qur’an expounds a clear message of monotheism, which is the cornerstone of faith in Islam. The Holy text illuminates the lives of all Muslims whether spiritual or temporal and binds the Muslim Nation (Islamic Umma) to a system of law, which inspires people by its guiding principles of human dignity, righteous living, individual responsibility and social justice.

The Holy Qur’an comprises of 114 Suras (Chapters) of varying length containing 6236 Ayas (verses) overall. The number of words in the Holy Qur’an is 77437 and these are traditionally divided into 30 equal sections called Ajza’a, singular, Juz’. More than 2/3 of the Holy Qur’an, some 4613 Ayas, were revealed in Makka over a period of 13 years mostly prior to Hijra (The flight of the Holy Prophet from Makka to Medina), the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar, in the year 622. The remainder of the Holy Qur’an, 1623 Ayas were revealed in Medina, mostly after the Hijra (flight) of the Holy Prophet to Medina.
